Founder’s Letter

A Message to Every Survivor

Dear Survivor,

I want to begin by saying this: you are not alone.

For many years, I believed I was too broken to heal. Growing up in Jamaica, I endured pain and abuse that left me feeling unworthy of love, safety, or belonging. When I came to London, I carried those wounds with me, and for years they shaped my choices, my relationships, and my view of myself.

Motherhood became my turning point. As I struggled with depression, anxiety, and the fear of losing my children, I knew I had to find a different path. Therapy gave me tools, but my deepest healing began when I took my journey into my own hands – learning, exploring holistic practices, and discovering ways to reconnect with my body, mind, and spirit.

Through this journey, I found something I once thought impossible: freedom. Not freedom from the memory of what happened, but freedom from the hold it had on me. I learned that healing isn’t about erasing the past, rather it’s about transforming pain into power.

In 2020, I began sharing my story, and in 2023 it reached over four million people worldwide. The response opened my eyes to a truth I could no longer ignore: there are so many of us. So many survivors searching for hope, for guidance, and for a safe space to heal. That is why I created Rising Survivors CIC – a community built from compassion, resilience, and the unshakable belief that healing is possible.

My hope is that Rising Survivors becomes a place where you feel safe, supported, and empowered to step into your own strength.

To every woman reading this: please know that you are not broken. You are not defined by what happened to you. You are powerful. You are worthy. And you, too, can rise.

With love and solidarity,

Vivienne Green

Our Partners

“A trusted ally in trauma-informed support.”
Working with Rising Survivors has been an eye-opening experience. Their trauma-informed approach is not only professional but deeply compassionate. They take the time to truly understand the unique challenges people face and create spaces where survivors feel safe, seen, and respected.

Through our collaboration, we’ve been able to connect with individuals who would otherwise remain isolated. The team’s dedication and authenticity have made a lasting difference, and we’re grateful to have them as a partner in this important work.

“Transforming lives through collaboration.”
Our partnership with Rising Survivors has shown us the power of combining creative expression with healing practices. Their workshops encourage participants to release emotions, explore identity, and discover new ways of processing trauma. The creativity they bring is both therapeutic and empowering.

We’ve witnessed participants move from silence to storytelling, and from pain to empowerment. The transformation is incredible to witness, and it’s clear that Rising Survivors is making an impact that extends far beyond the workshops themselves.

Case Study

Case Study 1: Rebuilding Confidence Through Peer Support

When ‘Leah’ first joined Rising Survivors, she was carrying deep emotional wounds from an abusive relationship. She described herself as “just surviving,” often isolating from family and friends out of fear and shame. The thought of opening up about her experiences felt overwhelming, and she doubted she would ever feel connected again.

Her first sessions in our Trauma-Informed Peer Support Groups were quiet ones – listening but not speaking. Over time, however, hearing others share their own stories gave her a sense of recognition she hadn’t felt before. The group’s understanding and compassion created a safe space where Leah began to find her voice.

As her confidence grew, Leah started setting small but meaningful goals: reconnecting with loved ones, attending community activities, and challenging negative thoughts about herself. Each success was celebrated within the group, reinforcing her belief that she was capable of change.

Today, Leah is no longer just surviving — she is thriving. She now volunteers in her community, offering encouragement to others who are where she once was. She calls Rising Survivors “the place that gave me the courage to live again.”

Case Study 2: Healing Through Creative Expression

‘Amira’, a young mother, joined Rising Survivors during a season of depression and disconnection. Her unresolved childhood trauma made bonding with her children difficult, and traditional talk therapy felt impossible – “I didn’t have the words,” she explained.

Through our Creative Expression and Healing Programmes, Amira discovered new ways of processing her pain. Guided art, journaling, and storytelling provided her with safe outlets to express emotions she had long suppressed. Slowly, the heaviness she carried began to lift.

Not only did she find her own healing, but she also began using creative practices with her children. Painting and storytelling became activities that built joy and strengthened their bond. For the first time in years, Amira felt present and connected as a mother.

Today, she continues to use creativity as part of her daily wellbeing routine. Amira describes these practices as her “lifeline,” and credits Rising Survivors with helping her rediscover both her identity and her hope for the future.

Case Study 3: Finding Strength in Somatic Practices

‘Maria’, in her 40s, had been living with chronic anxiety and body tension for most of her adult life. Despite years of therapy and medication, she still felt trapped in her own body, struggling to sleep and waking up each day with fear and exhaustion.

When she joined Rising Survivors, Maria was introduced to breathwork, Qigong, and somatic exercises. At first sceptical, she quickly noticed that these practices allowed her to calm her nervous system and release the physical stress she had carried for decades.

Week by week, Maria began to feel lighter and more in control of her own healing. She described the process as learning to “trust my body again” and began to sleep through the night without medication for the first time in years.

Today, Maria practices somatic healing daily and experiences far less anxiety. She calls Rising Survivors “the missing piece” in her journey and now encourages others to explore body-based healing as part of reclaiming their lives.
