Purpose

Rising Survivors CIC is committed to safeguarding the well-being and human rights of every individual who comes into contact with our services. Scope

  • All Rising Survivors CIC staff, directors, volunteers, facilitators, and peer supporters.

  • All service users, including women, mothers, and young people affected by trauma.

Policy Statement

We believe:

  • Everyone has the right to live free from abuse and harm.

  • We have a duty to act promptly and appropriately if safeguarding concerns arise.

  • Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Definitions

We work with individuals who may be vulnerable due to trauma, mental health challenges, or life circumstances. Abuse can include:

Our Commitments

Policy Statement

Rising Survivors CIC is committed to providing a safe and healthy working and service environment for all staff, volunteers, service users, visitors, and partners. This includes physical spaces, digital sessions, workshops, and outreach work.

Our Responsibilities

We will:

  • Identify and reduce health and safety risks in all our operations.

  • Ensure safe access to venues, rooms, and online platforms used in our work.

  • Provide basic training in health and safety to staff and volunteers.

  • Monitor well-being needs—especially trauma triggers, emotional regulation, and support.

  • Keep equipment, furniture, and supplies safe and accessible.

  • Ensure first aid is available at in-person sessions.

  • Encourage feedback and report all incidents, hazards, or near misses.

Your Responsibilities (Staff, Volunteers, and Visitors)

Everyone has a role to play. You must:

  • Take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others.

  • Report any risks, concerns, or injuries to the person responsible.

  • Use all equipment safely and appropriately.

  • Follow instructions, risk assessments, and safety guidelines during workshops, events, and outreach activities.

  • Be trauma-aware and support calm, inclusive environments.

COVID-19 and Public Health Measures

Where appropriate, we will implement public health guidance and hygiene standards. This may include sanitising, mask use, ventilation, or remote options for vulnerable individuals.

Accident and Incident Reporting

All accidents, hazards or injuries must be logged in our Incident Report Book and shared with the appropriate lead (staff, director, or venue coordinator).

  • All employees, volunteers, facilitators, and partners of Rising Survivors CIC

  • All programme participants, service users, and community members

Our Commitments

We will:

  • Treat all personal information shared in confidence with respect, discretion, and sensitivity.

  • Only share information with explicit consent, unless legally required to do so (e.g., safeguarding concerns or serious risk of harm).

  • Secure all personal data both physically (locked cabinets) and digitally (password-protected files).

  • Avoid discussing service users’ information in open or public settings.

  • Maintain confidentiality within group sessions, with clear group agreements at the start.

  • Provide a safe space where women feel secure in sharing their stories and journeys.

Exceptions to Confidentiality

We may have to break confidentiality if:

  • Someone is at risk of serious harm (including to themselves or others)

  • A child or vulnerable adult is at risk

  • A legal order or safeguarding agency requests disclosure

In such cases, information will be shared on a need-to-know basis only, and the individual will be informed where possible.

Welcome to our healing circle. As a volunteer, you are a vital part of our mission to support women healing from childhood/developmental trauma. This agreement sets out what you can expect from us — and what we hope from you.

What We Provide You:

  • Clear role description and expectations

  • Induction and support in your role

  • Access to well-being and reflective support where needed

  • A safe, inclusive, and empowering environment

  • Reimbursement for pre-approved travel or agreed expenses

  • Recognition, appreciation, and opportunities for growth

What We Ask of You:

  • Show up with care, compassion, and consistency

  • Respect confidentiality and boundaries

  • Communicate if you are unable to attend a session

  • Honour your commitment and give reasonable notice if you wish to step down

  • Participate in reflection sessions or team check-ins where applicable

  • Speak up if you witness or experience something that doesn’t feel right

This is a mutual understanding, not a contract of employment. Either party may withdraw at any time, ideally with prior communication and closure.
